A Creative Shift

Hi, I'm Sarah, the person behind the lens at Sarah E Fotografie. I'm a portrait and family photographer based in Long Beach, and I focus on capturing moments that are natural, fun, and full of personality.

Believe it or not, my journey into photography began almost by accident. I used to be involved in theater, and a few of my friends needed new headshots. I volunteered to take them, not thinking much of it, but I ended up really enjoying the process. People kept telling me I had a good eye, and that encouragement pushed me to keep shooting, mostly just for fun at first.

It didn't take long before photography became more than just a hobby. Now it's my full-time passion and profession. I specialize in portraits and family sessions, and I try to bring the same upbeat, outgoing energy I've always had into every shoot. I want people to feel relaxed and confident, like they can just be themselves in front of the camera. That's when the best photos happen.

Playful, Fluid, and Real

When it comes to creativity, I try not to over-plan. I usually find my creative rhythm during the session itself. I'll play around with angles, light, and composition in the moment, and honestly, some of my favorite shots happen by accident. There's a certain magic that comes from just going with the flow.

I love it when people let their guard down, when they laugh, move naturally, or just take a breath and enjoy the experience. I keep things light, a little silly, and always authentic. There's no pressure to “perform” in front of the camera. In fact, I find that the more relaxed someone feels, the more their real personality shines through.

Whether I'm working with families, couples, or individuals, I try to create a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and celebrated. I bring structure when needed, but always leave room for spontaneity. That's where the most memorable moments live.

A Familiar Canvas

Long Beach is my home, I was born and raised here and it plays a big part in my creative approach. I know this city like the back of my hand. I've shot in dozens of locations across the area, and yet I still discover new corners that surprise me. That's one of the things I love most about Long Beach, it's always evolving, and always inspiring.

From scenic coastal spots to urban backdrops with grit and charm, Long Beach gives me so many textures and moods to work with. And because I'm so familiar with the area, I can guide clients to spots that fit their vibe, whether they want golden hour at the beach or something a bit more of a hidden gem.

Every shoot feels a little different here, even if I've used a location before. The light changes, the atmosphere shifts, and that keeps my work fresh and exciting.

It's About Connection

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone looking for a photographer, it would be this: choose someone you feel genuinely comfortable with. Yes, the work should speak to you visually, but the connection matters just as much.

A session isn't just about the final photos, it's about how you felt while taking them. When you're at ease, that shows through in the images. It's why I focus on creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere during every shoot.

I'm outgoing, easy to talk to, and I genuinely love helping people feel confident in front of the camera. That connection is what makes each session feel personal, and it's also what makes the final gallery feel real and alive.

So if you're looking for someone who's about more than just perfectly posed pictures, someone who cares about capturing honest, human moments, I'd love to work with you.

It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter
